Scotland Welcome Retreat // September 22-28
Open to anyone - couples, women, singles - this Scotland trip is steeped in hospitality, and rooted in history and culinary excellence. If you want to see a different side to Scotland, venture into the Highlands, and learn from locals, this will be the retreat of a lifetime.
Joel & I have come to truly love Scotland over the course of our travels, and we keep coming back to Edinburgh and the Highlands with new eyes, and a new appreciation for the rich culture that awaits us.
If Scotland is on your bucket list, but you don’t want to travel with a traditional tour group and see all of the regular spots, come join us. This trip will challenge you, educate you, and leave you with a deep understanding of Scottish life and culture.
Here is a taste of what we’ll be experiencing during our time together:
September 22: You will be picked up from the Edinburgh Airport (EDI) at 12pm. From here, we’ll head to Glencoe as a group, and making picturesque stops along the way, including the Wee White House, and the Gathering of Three Waters. We’ll check into our accommodations for the next few nights, and give you time to relax and settle in before enjoying dinner together in Glencoe.
September 23: Today, we’ll enjoy breakfast at our accommodations, and then head to Fort William. We’ll embark on one of the most stunning hikes in the Highlands, the Steall Waterfall hike, in the morning. You’ll be on your own for lunch in Fort William, and we’ll leave in the late afternoon for a distillery tour and tasting at Ben Nevis Distillery that uses fresh waters from Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in Scotland) in their distillation process. Tonight, we’ll dine at a local restaurant with a Michelin-star chef in downtown Glencoe.
September 24: After breakfast, we’ll head back to Fort William to enjoy a tour and soap making workshop at Highland Soap Company. This tour will teach us about the botanicals of northern Scotland, and how the land influences culture and the products used in their state of the art facility. Later this afternoon, we’ll head to afternoon tea in a restored castle known for its hospitality, Inverlochy Castle.
September 25: This morning after breakfast, we’re heading even farther north to dip our toes in the waters of Loch Ness before continuing onto Inverness to check out this quaint town and the history surrounding it.
September 26: We’ll enjoy breakfast together before leaving for Edinburgh, with a tour of one of the most preserved castles in Scotland, Stirling Castle. We’ll make our way to the city center as a group, and enjoy a very traditional Scottish dinner in the famous Grassmarket district at one of our favorite restaurants. If you’re hoping to try Haggis, now’s the time! Tonight, we’ll enjoy a whisky tasting tour to learn more about all of the whisky regions of Scotland in a famous archaeological site in downtown Edinburgh.
September 27: We’ll have breakfast at our accommodations this morning before a tour of Edinburgh Castle. This afternoon, you’ve got a choice between a traditional tweed bag-making workshop with Islander, or a trip to Cadenheads for a whiskey tasting and explanation of the bottling process. Tonight, we’ll enjoy a cooking class in Leith and learn about the origins of some of the nation’s most popular dishes.
September 28: Either head to the airport, or continue your exploration of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. We highly recommend checking out the Scott Monument, the National Galleries of Scotland, and Arthur’s Seat if you’re looking to stay in the area. If you like to golf, an extra day or two in St. Andrews would be an incredible addition! Please let us know if we can assist you in planning an extra day or two in this beautiful city - we are here to help.
